Solar PV for a Working Farm
Helping a local farm generate, store and make better use of its own renewable electricity.
Project installed in April 2026
System Specification:
20 Solar Panels
8kW Fox Hybrid inverter
2 x Fox EP12 batteries
24kWh of battery storage
Roof-mounted system on a box-profile steel roof
With large roof spaces and much of their electricity use taking place throughout the day, farms can be particularly well suited to solar energy.
For this local farm, we designed and installed a complete solar and battery storage system using an existing box-profile steel roof. The system allows renewable electricity generated during daylight hours to be used directly across the farm, helping to reduce the amount of electricity drawn from the grid.
Any surplus electricity that is not needed immediately can be stored in the batteries and used later in the day, during the evening or when electricity demand increases.
Making Better Use of Available Roof Space
Agricultural buildings often provide large, open roof areas that can be well suited to solar panels.
For this project, the panels were carefully positioned across the farm building’s box-profile steel roof to make effective use of the available space while creating a neat and practical installation.
The completed solar array now generates renewable electricity directly from an existing part of the farm’s infrastructure, allowing the roof to play an active role in supporting the property’s energy requirements.
A System Designed Around a Farm
Every farm has different buildings, energy requirements and patterns of electricity use. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, this system was designed around the available roof space and the way electricity is used across the property.
The combination of 20 solar panels, an 8kW hybrid inverter and 24kWh of battery storage provides a complete renewable energy system designed to support the farm both during and outside peak solar-generation hours.
The Result
The completed installation provides the farm with a practical way to generate renewable electricity from an existing agricultural roof while storing surplus energy for use at a later time.
The system will help the farm:
- Generate renewable electricity on site
- Make productive use of existing roof space
- Use solar electricity directly during the day
- Store surplus electricity for later
- Reduce reliance on electricity from the grid
