investing in renewable technology for your home, there is another date worth having on your radar.<\/p><p>Under the current rules, the installation of qualifying energy-saving materials in homes is <span style=\"color: #09a6e5;\"><strong>zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027<\/strong>.<\/span> From <span style=\"color: #09a6e5;\"><strong>1 April 2027<\/strong><\/span>, these installations are currently due to return to the reduced VAT rate of <strong>5%<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0e92cc6 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"0e92cc6\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The relief covers a wide range of energy-saving technologies when they are installed in qualifying residential properties.<\/p><p>These include:<\/p><ul><li>Solar panels<\/li><li>Air source heat pumps<\/li><li>Ground source heat pumps<\/li><li>Battery storage<\/li><li>Insiwleiddio<\/li><li>Central heating and hot water controls<\/li><li>Smart diverters<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Battery storage was added to the list of qualifying technologies in February 2024, meaning batteries can currently qualify for 0% VAT when installed on their own as well as alongside a solar PV system.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5ac0540 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"5ac0540\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-322ac9d elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"322ac9d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What does the change mean for homeowners?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d8dac7c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d8dac7c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>For now, qualifying installations can be supplied and installed without VAT being added to the price.<\/p><p>Under the legislation currently in place, this temporary 0% rate ends on <span style=\"color: #e6017e;\"><strong>31 March 2027<\/strong><\/span>, after which qualifying installations are due to move to the reduced <span style=\"color: #e6017e;\"><strong>5% VAT rate<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><p>For example, on a qualifying installation costing \u00a310,000 before VAT, a 5% rate would add <span style=\"color: #e6017e;\"><strong>\u00a3500<\/strong><\/span> to the overall cost.<\/p><p>So, for homeowners already considering solar panels, battery storage or a heat pump, completing an installation while the current 0% VAT relief remains available could make a noticeable difference to the overall investment.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7eda521 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"7eda521\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The VAT relief generally applies to the <span style=\"color: #e6017e;\"><strong>installation<\/strong><\/span> of qualifying energy-saving materials.<\/p><p>Simply purchasing equipment yourself does not automatically qualify for the same treatment. HMRC states that energy-saving materials supplied without installation are normally standard-rated.
